PREPARING TO DRIVE WITH LEARN TO DRIVE AYLESBURY

Driving School Car

How do I obtain my provisional licence?

Before you can learn to drive a car on puplic roads you need to:

Be 17 years old minimum (people of ANY age can learn to drive)

Have a provisional driving licence. You can apply up to three months before you 17th birthday. You can pick up the form a D1 from your local Post Office. Send it off completed with two passport-sized pictures of youself to the DVLA Swansea.

What do I need to do before I can start driving?

Your provisional licence must be accepted and in your possession before you start driving. By law, you must also be able to read a standard size licence number plate from 20.5 meters (67 feet) or 20 meters (65 feet) where narrower.

Before you can drive a car unaccompanied on puplic roads you need to:

Pass your theory test. The theory test must be passed before you can book your practical test. but you can start driving lessons before you pass the theory test. We can help you with this. The theory test is in two parts.

Multiple Choice. You will get 50 multiple choice questions of which you need to get at least 43 out of 50 correct to pass.

Hazard Perception Test. In the Hazard Perception Test, you will be shown 14 vidio clips where you have to observe possible driving hazards, 13 of the clips have 1 hazard in them and one clip has 2 hazards. You can score up to 5 points if you see the hazard early enough. The pass mark is 44 out of 75.

Once you have passed your Theory Test you have 2 years from that date in which to pass your practical test or you will have to re-sit your Theory Test.

Nervous? Don't Be

Your Learn 2 Drive driving instructor will put at ease, after meeting your instructor he will ask to see your provisional licence (please bring both parts if it is the new style licence that you have) after checking your licence, you will be asked to read a car number plate to check your eyesight.

Your Learn 2 Drive instructor will then drive you to a suitable place to start your lesson, on the drive you will asked a few questions to determine how much you know about the car and to find out what experience you already have. This will give your instructor an indication on where to start with the lesson.
